The celebrated writer and her husband, Leonard, moved into Hogarth House in 1915, when the outer London town—the only one located on both sides of the River Thames—was still a part of Surrey (it became part of London in 1965). Two years later, they founded Hogarth Press by purchasing a small hand press and some second-hard typeface, according to the Richmond government website.
